UPGRADING COMMUNITY INFASTRUCTURE IN CASTLEMAINE

11 December 2025

Federal Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters is today with Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Cr Toby Heydon to announce the $247,925 to electrify Castlemaine Town Hall.

Through round two of the Community Energy Upgrades Fund (CEUF) the government has funded the upgrading of this community asset which will significantly reduce operation costs.

This funding will work towards upgrading and transition heating cooling, hot water and cook to an all-electric system.

This demonstrates clean energy leadership from Mount Alexander Shire Council and enhances their energy resilience which is critical in regional locations such as Castlemaine.

Critically, the electrification of the Town Hall will enable the facility to be utilised as a critical and comfortable emergency relief centre during increasingly prevalent extreme weather events.

In the second-round one-off grants of between $25,000 to $2.5 million have been awarded to projects on a merit basis, with local governments matching funding.

The Albanese Labor Government is working with councils, so they can save on their bills and invest more into their communities.

In the second round of the fund 66 local government bodes across Australia will receive $50 million in grants, empowering them to bring down their energy bills for good through energy efficiency and electrification upgrades to community facilities
