DISASTER READY FUNDING FOR CAMPBELLS CREEK FLOOD STUDY

11 December 2025

The Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters MP and the State Member for Bendigo West, Maree Edwards MP announced today that the Mount Alexander Shire Council will receive $95,000 for the Campbells Creek Flood study.

Through Round Three of the Disaster Ready Fund (DRF), the Albanese Labor Government has funded the implementation of a critical flood study to ensure the safety of surrounding communities.

The Campbells Creek Flood Study will determine the potential impacts of flooding in Campbells Creek to inform enhanced emergency management plans.

The study will focus on the impact of riverine flooding, accounting for climate change and storm water impacts.

This will support assessment and resilience improvements to the Campbells Creek Flood Levee, enabling targeted mitigation strategies and dissemination of accessible flood risk information to improve community flood preparedness.

This is just another example of how the Albanese and Allan Labor Governments are building the flood resilience and security of Regional Victoria.

Quotes attributable to Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters MP:

"In October 2022, parts of Campbells Creek flooded devastating local constituents and community members."

"We know that extreme weather events are happening with higher severity as a result of climate change. That’s why communities need the most accurate information to inform their emergency responses.

“The Albanese Government understands that by investing in ongoing disaster mitigation, we can proactively deliver meaningful projects that curb the devastating impact of floods, fires and other types of disasters rather than just react to events.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP:

“Local communities know their risks better than anyone. This project is about planning for the future, so that Campbells Creek residents can stay safe and can respond quickly when severe weather hits.”

“I’m proud to see this investment in Campbells Creek which will strengthen our community’s resilience and ensure we’re ready for severe weather events.”
